VH1 FAN CLUB
Ricky Martin was one of the biggest teen idols in Latin America during the '90s. A lead singer of Menudo, Martin was blessed with good looks and a nice voice, which helped him become a Latin music star. He also became an actor, earning praise from the Mexican motion picture industry and starring on the American soap opera General Hospital, where he played Miguel Morez, a bartender who sings on the weekend.
His first English-language pop album -- entitled Ricky Martin -- was released in the spring of 1999. It made him an international superstar thanks to blockbuster singles including "Livin' la Vida Loca" and "She's All I Ever Had."
"FanClub," premiered on VH1 with a show on Metallica, and continued with 12 additional episodes. Each hour-long show documented four fans of a well-known artist. Other artists which were featured included the Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, KISS and Bon Jovi. The Ricky Martin episode originally aired in November of 2002.
The objective of the show was to find people who are atypical fans, those who one wouldn't expect to be fans. For the Ricky Martin episode, fans included a high school student who felt he looked like Martin, a woman who named her horse after him, and a court judge from Tippecanoe County.
